When asked to name a place in India, you probably wouldn't say Bihar.

In the north-east of India, this is a vast, rural state. But it's also a forgotten place. People affected by leprosy are some of the most marginalised people in Bihar.

But it's time for them to be seen, known and loved.

Bihar is one of the poorest states in India.

Life is tough here. Many families don't have proper sanitation. Healthcare facilities are sparse, and there are few doctors.

Leprosy rates are high, but people affected by the disease find themselves pushed to the margins of society.

Across Bihar, people affected by leprosy are excluded and forgotten. Many are rejected by their families after being diagnosed with the disease.

On top of this, it’s nearly impossible to find the medical care they need. Many people affected by leprosy develop permanent disabilities as a result.

These are the very people that Jesus healed in his earthly life. In Bihar, though, they are treated as the least and the last.

But there is an oasis in the desert: Muzaffarpur Hospital. Here, people affected by leprosy can get the care and compassion they need. Here, they are put first.
