Compassion, justice, opportunity. These aren’t just words; they’re actions. They’re what the Giving Community stands for, what everyone deserves.
Yet across Asia and Africa, too many people are denied these rights, simply because they have a disease: leprosy. Its physical effects are brutal. Left untreated, leprosy causes loss of feeling in the hands and feet and can even lead to blindness. When you can’t feel pain, everyday tasks can lead to cuts, burns and injuries.
The worst thing is how people are treated. Discrimination and fear mean they face being thrown out of their families. Children are torn from parents, wives from husbands.

How does it all work?
For as little as £8 a month, you’ll walk alongside people affected by leprosy, and you’ll transform lives.
You can even choose where your first gift will go. You could help cure someone with leprosy, build community essentials like toilets, provide people with a life-changing education or fund research into better leprosy treatments.
We’ll update you on where your money goes, and introduce you to the stories of people whose lives you’ve changed. The people who, very soon, could be your new neighbours.

Healthcare
You can find and cure people affected by leprosy quickly, before they become disabled. You can also ensure that people affected have access to the best care and treatment.
Research
When you choose to support research, you'll invest in the development of better leprosy treatments. You'll also help to find tools to diagnose people faster.
Education
You can provide life-changing education for children and adults, giving them the opportunity to learn skills and build futures.
Livelihoods
In this part of the community you will help to improve living standards. You can provide clean toilets, wells, animals and plants. All that is needed to build stronger immunity to disease.
Healthcare
When you support healthcare through The Giving Community, you become part of a story of healing and restoration. You help bring the cure for leprosy and help prevent needless disability.
A course of antibiotics, taken for just 6 to 12 months, can completely heal someone. You will also help protect families and neighbours and provide preventative medicine that can stop the disease from spreading. With that, you'll also educate communities and show them that leprosy is not a curse. It doesn't need to be feared.
Your compassion goes even further still. You provide treatment for ulcers and damaged eyes, deliver prosthetic limbs, and offer vital emotional support, enabling people to live with dignity and confidence.
Take Mario in Mozambique. He was diagnosed with leprosy at 22, and had already lost some fingers before receiving treatment. Now cured, Mario has turned his experience into a mission of hope.
For fifteen years, he has travelled across villages. He helps others recognise the early signs of leprosy and guides them to get treatment. Thanks to caring neighbours like you, he has helped hundreds of people find healing and freedom from this terrible disease.
Your passion for healthcare empowers people like Mario. It transforms lives, restores hope, and shows that together we can end the pain and stigma of leprosy for good.
Research
Because leprosy is a disease of the poorest of the poor, it is sadly not an area of focus of medical research. Yet, like you, we believe that research has the power to save lives.
When you support research through The Giving Community, you take a stand against the injustice of leprosy. You help close the knowledge gap that still surrounds this ancient disease and its complications.
Together with a community of other dedicated innovators, you make it possible to develop faster, more affordable tests for early diagnosis. You keep scientists moving forward. You are helping them find new ways to stop transmission and bring an end to leprosy within our lifetime.
Meet Nischal, one of these remarkable innovators. He’s a researcher at Anandaban Hospital in Nepal. Nischal is testing how new and existing drugs work against leprosy bacteria. His work is both pioneering and full of promise.
With support from passionate neighbours like you, Nischal and his team are racing to find the next generation of treatments. This is vital to prevent resistance to current medicines. It is also important to provide opportunities for alternative treatments when drug stocks are low.
Your support ensures that every part of the community, no matter how remote, can continue to access a life-changing cure and the hope of a future free from leprosy.
Education
When you support education through The Giving Community, you open the door to opportunity for children and young people affected by leprosy.
You stand alongside your neighbours. Providing school essentials, books, pens, and uniforms. So that every child has the chance to learn, grow, and belong.
Your kindness also supports vocational training and skills development. You are giving young people the tools and confidence they need to find work, earn an income, and build a future of independence and dignity.
Take Rani, a bright young girl from Sri Lanka. When her mother was diagnosed with leprosy, rejection quickly followed. Rani stopped going to school as her friends would tease her. Her confidence faded.
But through the care of this compassionate community, and with your support, everything began to change.
A leprosy awareness programme was introduced at her school, helping classmates understand and accept her. It showed them that leprosy was nothing to be feared. With her school pack of books, pens, and a new uniform, Rani returned to school with joy.
Now she’s thriving. Rani dreams of becoming a doctor so that she can help children like her. This is the impact of your support: children restored to confidence, education, and opportunity.

Livelihoods
When you support livelihoods through The Giving Community, you’re standing alongside people affected by leprosy as they rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Like you, we believe that no one should be defined by disease or poverty. Your support helps provide the tools and opportunities families need to grow crops, earn an income, and secure the basics of life — food, water, and shelter.
Through community gardens, families can now harvest vegetables and fruits, providing them with both nourishment and stability. The community are building wells so that people no longer need to walk miles for water. Water that was often unsafe to drink. As climate change brings greater hardship, your compassion helps ensure that no one is left behind.
When Cyclone Remi struck the low-lying Sundarbans in Bangladesh, many people affected by leprosy lost everything — their homes, food, and livelihoods.
But neighbours like you extended a hand of friendship, providing emergency food and helping families get back on their feet.
Now, thanks to this incredible support, families are receiving goats. It is a simple, yet powerful gift. A single goat can provide milk for nutrition, offspring to sell, and a steady source of income. For people who once faced despair, it offers stability, pride, and the opportunity to plan for tomorrow.
